Lead Electrical Design Engineer (EDS)

Job Overview:
Project lead and manager in electrical design. Responsible for effective reporting and section efficiency. Responsible for checking and approving electrical drawings and designs with support from the head of department. Collaborating with other teams and departments to validate and ensure compliance of product. Consult directly with customers and suppliers to identify and introduce product improvements across all machine builds at client location. Drive innovative product improvements and team process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead team daily activities and develop safe and efficient working methods.
  • Support the development of technical construction files for submission to third party auditors (notified bodies) and support that process.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to other engineers, ensuring that solutions are technically fit for purpose, reliable, serviceable and meet appropriate legislation.
  • Work with a team of people in the control of all cost, weight and product data structure for all current vehicles and new product programs.
  • Support of New Product Introduction and Engineering Change Management.
  • Apply DFM techniques in support of manufacturing products.
  • Manage own workload and set priorities for the team.
  • Ensure completion of final design documentation.
  • Manage CAD data within the Solid works PDM environment.
  • Review and assist in the effective closeout of the live top 10 product improvements.
  • Collaborate with neighbouring departments including manufacturing engineering, quality, operations and product support to support the successful introduction of your designs into production and the field.
  • Design and Specify hydraulic drive and control systems for MEWPs.
  • Conduct type approval tests and document detailed test records. Keep up to date with impending legislation changes and ensure timely introduction of design changes necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Increasing the value of existing designs of machines by use of value analysis and value engineering techniques.
  • Designing new machines and modifying the design of existing machines improve manufacturability in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Provide engineering advice and support to all departments in organisation with regards to electrical issues.
  • Validation and improvement of Component Drawings & Specifications to ensure optimum quality and cost.
  • Work ‘hands on’ in data gathering and to provide Purchasing/ Commodities & “hands on” support in testing & implementation of improvement activities.
  • Validate and test new machines and products to meet design intent and feedback.
  • Develop test plans and software parameters for launch projects.
  • Preparation of layout, assembly, and detail drawings in 2D and 3D.
  • Preparation of electrical schematics and specifications.
  • Preparation of functional descriptions and translation in to working software.
  • Specification and procurement support of third-party equipment and components.
  • Assembly / validation of prototype electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Recording of results and report writing.
  • Ensuring systems compliance with relevant standards.
  • Preparation of Designers Risk Assessments.
  • Support in the Preparation of manuals.
  • Assisting with manufacturing solutions within the business.
  • Offer a technical backup service to Sales, Projects, Design, Manufacturing and Service departments.
  • Be prepared to support Projects with implementation of technology.

Education/Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in electrical harness design (vehicles) an advantage
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in area of Electrical engineering.
  • Engineering Management experience.
  • The ability to interpret and provide Engineering instructions & drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate methodical approach with accuracy & attention to detail.
  • Understanding of systems design including hydraulic would be advantageous.
  • Experience using AutoCAD / Solidworks
  • Previous experience of working with MRP systems advantageous.
  • Good organisational skills and competent analytical techniques.
  • Must be capable of prioritising and multi-tasking in a pressurised environment.
  • Capable of working to planned & agreed schedules and timescales.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to set own priorities based on business needs and environment.
  • An understanding of performance measurement and KPI’s.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Results orientated, with a commitment to quality and timely delivery.
  • Can demonstrate high levels of personal energy and enthusiasm and generates the same in the individuals they lead.
